Samsung launches WiMax-enabled netbook

by Joe on March 23, 2009

It looks like the netbook trend is in full force, and this is one way that wireless internet will continue to spread. WIth multiple forms of connectivity built in, there’s almost no place these devices can’t get signal. This morning we learn of Samsung’s new NC310 netbook, which has a number of consumer-friendly features. Many people will take notice to its edge-to-edge keyboard, which is much more comfortable than the smaller keyboards typical of netbooks. However, there is a more subtle feature which excites us broadband geeks: built-in WiMax. That, combined with the Wi-Fi and HSPA support, make this one connective netbook.

That’s three ways to connect, each of which has its advantages and disadvantages, but which combined can provide an almost always-on connectivity. It features a gig of memory, 160 GB hard drive, 1.3 megapixel camera, and Bluetooth. All these features combined — along with a five-hour standard battery life — makes this an attractive option for those of us who work online but can’t confine ourselves to the office.

The device isn’t quite released yet, but it’s on the horizon. Look for it to launch in North America as part of a worldwide release. Pricing isn’t known at this point.
